The Prison Tower is the oldest building in Neuchâtel with foundations going back to the 10th Century, although the stone blocks are believed to have been used previously in Roman times. This high tower standing at the foot of Neuchâtel castle is one of the town’s main tourist attractions. Inside are two wooden cells that were used until 1848. On show are models showing Neuchâtel at the end of the 15th and 18th centuries. Entry is through a turnstile and visitors have to pay 1 CHF for admission. There is a panoramic view of the Alps and an information board is on hand to identify the various summits.
