Lausanne’s suburb of Ouchy is a place of palaces converted into hotels, shady promenades, harbours and picturesque parks. Between the old harbour and the sports harbour is a 12th/13th-century castle tower, all that remains of fortress Château d’Ouchy. Nearby, at the Hôtel d’Angleterre (1880), a plaque tells visitors that it was here that Lord Byron wrote "The Prisoner of Chillon". The Place de la Navigation is an expanse of light and water with steamboats reminding travellers of the 19th century style. Ouchy is a charming location which shouldn’t be ignored by visitors to Lausanne.
