The Path of the Planets starts from the east veranda of the Vetta Hotel-Restaurant on Monte Generoso. The Planetary System has been reconstructed in a 600-metre line on a scale of 1:10 billion enabling visitors to visualise the reality of the cosmos. Along the route are ten information panels, in four languages, explaining the mysteries of the planets. The Astronomical Observatory is open to the public and regular evenings are organised for when the firmament can be observed. It was inaugurated on 26 August 1996 by the astrophysicist Margherita Hack from the University of Trieste.
