Neuchâtel has a rich cultural and architectural past. As well as having an ideal location, surrounded as it is by water and mountains, the town is a delight to explore with many opportunities to rest at one of the cafes situated on the waterfront or in one of the many attractive squares. There are several museums to visit and pedestrian areas to walk, including guided tours of the medieval districts, the castle and the collegiate church. If walking is too strenuous you can take the tourist train that runs around the town during the summer (see separate entry).
