Visitors to Meiringen, about 14 km east of Brienz, should call in at the small but interesting Natural History Museum. When Hans Lanz, a local expert, died in 1992, a foundation was created, for the benefit of the public, to house his collection of regional fauna. Visitors can now learn about indigenous mammals, birds, nests, eggs, butterflies and insects. The exhibits are themed into mountain and alpine regions, water birds, domestic animals and birds and animals of the forest.
