This museum is not devoted to quaint Swiss customs, but to smuggling and smugglers. Customs scholars, historians and economists have studied the subject for decades. The building that houses the Customs Museum is on the opposite side of lake from Lugano, and can be reached by boat. Opened to the public in 1978, it houses an exhibition spread over three different floors. On the ground floor is the old customs post as it appeared in 1904, together with a wax figure of a smuggler being handcuffed by two officers. The exhibits are both bizarre and interesting and this museum should not be missed.
