The Mendrisio Museum of Art has been housed since 1982 in the Convento dei Serviti (see separate entry). The museum has exhibitions dedicated to the great 20th Century masters and has benefitted from some significant donations of paintings and sculpture. It also houses works on paper ranging from the 16th to the 20th Century, which document many aspects of local art history. The estate of Pietro Chiesa, a leading figure in 20th Century art in Ticino and Lombardy, donated 500 paintings and prints from the artist’s studio. The museum also has over 650 painted and illuminated panels of religious subjects.
