Still almost entirely intact, this 800 metre section of the rampart walls of the city dates from 1386; it has nine towers, every one different. Three towers are open to the public the Schirmer, the Clock (zyt), (see separate entries) and the Männli with its little man on top. The six other towers are the Nölli, the Hay (Heu), the Luegisland, the Powder (Pulver), the Allenwinden and the Small Roof (Dächli). The Nölli Tower is the headquarters of the Safran Guild and houses its archives, whilst the Luegisland Tower is the tallest at 52.6 metres and has a weathervane on top.
