The Schirmer Tower is one of the three towers in the Musegg wall open to the public and is named after the hill behind it. It served as an entrance to the countryside from the sealed city and is erected in front of the wall. Standing 27.5 metres tall it is constructed of polished stone with purpose made cornerstones. The low pyramid shaped roof tops a feature frieze of rounded arches, as used on other towers. It is a superb gateway.
