The Zeitturm, Clock, or Time Tower, is one of the three towers on the Musegg old town wall which is open to the public. Standing 31 metres high, it gets its name from the city’s oldest clock, which was installed there in 1535 and was built by the Basel clock maker Hans Luter. It is said that even the fishermen on the lake can tell the time from its large dial and numbers. A curious anomaly is that it is set to chime one minute before any other city clock, some say as a privilege of age!. The tower’s frescos have been restored.
