Monte San Salvatore overlooks Lugano, giving it a passing resemblance to Rio de Janeiro on a much smaller scale. A trip to the top is a not to be missed treat, but do wear some warm clothes. On a clear day the views over Lugano, and the surrounding area, are spectacular. San Salvatore is easy to reach as there is a funicular near the train station of Lugano-Paradiso. There is a nice restaurant up there, where you can eat and admire the view. There are also some nature trails, with gentle walks, or it can be the starting point for more strenuous hikes.
