Monte Generoso is known for its outstanding panoramic views. The peak can be reached by a cogwheel railway, which departs from Capolago, on Lake Lugano. The train takes 40 minutes to reach the summit, but this is part of the charm of the trip, as the countryside is breathtakingly beautiful. From the peak you can view the lakes of Lugano, Como, Varese and Maggiore. The city of Lugano, the Po Valley, the Apennines, the Alpine chain, from Gran Paradiso to Monte Rosa, from the Matterhorn to the Jungfrau and the Gotthard massif to the Bernina group of mountains are all on show.
