Meggenhorn Castle is located approximately 6 km south of the city and, with its secluded and romantic park overlooking Lake Lucerne, it is frequently used for weddings and receptions. The estate was first referred to in 1240, but the present imposing castle was built by Edouad Hofer-Grosjean from 1868-70 and the Neo-gothic chapel in 1886 by Marie Amelie Heine, who purchased the property. You can gain a good impression of how the wealthy lived in the late 19th and 20th centuries until 1974, when the property was sold to the Meggen council. There are magnificent views of the Swiss Alps.
