Lugano lies in a bay on the northern side of the lake of the same name. This historic town has numerous buildings in Italianate Lombardy style, museums, mountains, the lake and a mild climate. All of which makes Lugano a popular tourist destination. The town centre has Mediterranean-style squares and arcades and numerous parks. The two closest mountains to Lugano are Monte San Salvatore and Monte Brč. From Monte Brč visitors can walk down to the village of Brč, a typical Ticino village. From San Salvatore an interesting walk leads down through Carona to Lake Lugano at Morcote.
