In Ferreyres, during 1967, a group of archaeologists found two twinned furnaces dating from the 6th century. Professor Pelet of the University of Lausanne had undertaken excavations in the forest of Bellaires, north of Ferreyres, which owes its name to the presence of iron ore in the region. Forging mills dating from the Roman time were unearthed in 1965. But the most interesting discovery is, without question, the two furnaces dating from the year 600. They are in a very good state of conservation and are open for viewing, although they are protected by a concrete construction keeping visitors from touching them. An explanatory panel explains the workings.
