The Château de l’Isle, located at the edge of the Venoge River, was built in 1614. One of the descendents of the original owner, Charles de Chandieu, had a brilliant career in the army of Louis XIV. After his marriage to Catherine de Gaudicher, he decided to rebuild the old residence. The architect of Louis XIV, Jules Hardouin-Mansart, designs the new building in 1694. The castle remains with the family of Chandieu until the end of the 18th century. In French-speaking Switzerland, the Château de l’Isle constitutes an important example of French architecture.
