The domanine of Béthusy (Bitusiacum) is documented in 906 as belonging to the Lord of Vennes. By the 17th century, it already comprised three buildings, including, in 1693, a newly-built master house. Paul d’ Huc, Count d’ Empire, undertook the rebuilding of the property in 1774. It was at this time that the master house was reclassified as a chateau. After having passed through several hands, the chateau and land became the property of the town of Lausanne in 1947. The last external restoration was in 1974 and involved the complete renovation of the southernmost façade.
