Lake Pfäffikon (Pfäffikersee) is a small lake situated approximately 23 km east of Zürich. The lake at the centre is about 2.5 km long and 1.3 km wide and was formed in the last ice age. Excavations of the Neolithic lake dwellings at Robenhausen on the southern shore have revealed evidence of fishing, wild ox and deer hunting, the domestication of animals, and cultivation of wheat and flax. Stone, wood and bone tools and weapons, as well as wood and pottery vessels have been found. The largest town is Pfäffikon and there are a number of bathing areas (see separate entries).
