Lake Greifen (Greifensee) is a small lake about 10 km to the northeast of the Zürichsee; it is the second largest lake in the Zürich canton and a favourite excursion for city dwellers. About 6 km long and 1.6 km maximum in width, it has a number of bathing areas (see separate entries). There are several small towns around the lake (Maur, Niederuster, Fällanden, Mönchaltorf and Greifensee) and these are serviced by ship, which also runs culinary cruises (phone +41 (0)44 980 01 69). The lake is mainly fed by the Aabach River and the shore is a nature conservation area
