Kandersteg is in the valley of the River Kander and is noted for its superb mountain scenery; it has many attractions in addition to Alpine Sports and its Lido (see separate entries). It offers outstanding hiking trails (the tourist office sells a good map) totalling some 550 km, of which about 50 km are even suitable for baby carriages and wheelchairs. Lake Oeschinen, regarded as one of the most attractive in Switzerland, can be accessed by the Sesselbahn Kandersteg-Oeschinen chairlift. Other places of interest are the 16th century parish church, the local museum and much more.
