Inden is only a few kilometres from Leukerbad. The little village has only 110 inhabitants, but it has three inns. There is an attractive church with elaborate baroque altars and an old train station, without tracks, which is run as a small shop. In 1779 Johann Wolfgang von Goethe described Inden as follows: "we saw, when we came past an ash tree and rested at a wayside shrine, below us at the end of a lovely green terrace, besides an enormous gorge, the village of Inden with a white church close to the cliffs, laid out in the midst of the landscape.”
