Rising above Nationalquai, the twin gothic towers of the Hof Church, Lucerne’s main church are a familiar city landmark. Built on the site of the 8th century Benedictine St Leodegar monastery, the church was destroyed by fire in 1633 and rebuilt in Renaissance/Baroque style in the period 1634-1639, but the 1525 towers of the previous church were preserved. The façade is particularly noteworthy and the base of the left tower has a beautiful 1512 scene of the Mount of Olives. Other features include the carved pulpit and choir stalls, the famous organ and the main altar.
