Lausanne Historical Museum is housed in the bishop’s palace; its oldest sections date back to the 11th century. Opened in 1918, it covers the history of Lausanne, from prehistoric times through to the 19th century. There is an incredible model of 17th century Lausanne on a 1/200 scale, based on a 1638 map and the first cadastral map of 1723. The museum houses 550,000 works and objects of silverwork, pewter, clothing, ceramics, furniture and tools and its library contains 5,000 titles. The iconography area is extensive, with drawings, oil paintings, prints and maps of Lausanne and the surrounding area.
