The Hasli Museum is located next to the last old timber houses remaining in Meiringen and gives the visitor insight into the cultural history of the Oberhasli valley. It also stages special exhibitions, highlighting specific historical episodes in the area. Amongst the exhibits are traditionally furnished rooms and documents relating to the fire of 1891, which virtually destroyed the village. Within two hours 174 buildings were destroyed and 900 people died. Exhibits relate to traditional crafts, such as home weaving and the construction of timber buildings, including tools, and a section devoted to the crystal caves first discovered in 1719.
