Estavayer-le-Lac is located about 8 km northwest of Payerne and the Frog Museum, housed in a magnificent 15th century Gothic building, is only partly devoted to the unique collection of 108 frogs. The frogs are the work of a Napoleonic officer who, around 1850, stuffed and displayed them in satirical scenes of everyday life, such as playing cards and at the barber’s. The museum has a collection of signals and Davy, paraffin and gas lamps and another of weapons, battlefield scenes and uniforms. Local history is not forgotten, with items from the Bronze Age and lacustrine era. This is a fascinating mixture.
