The ornate and attractive Fritschi Fountain dates from 1918. Fritschi, a legendary 15th century character whose body is said to be buried under the fountain, gives rise to certain traditions. Wine is served by the Safran guild during the ‘Fasnacht’ festival, paid for by an alleged bequest from Fritschi, whilst two guild members dress as the benefactor and his wife ‘Fritschine’. Built in neo-Renaissance style, the fountain has painted figures of Fritschi his wife, a maiden and a peasant and his statue is at the top. Four fools’ masks deliver water from goats’ horns into the hexagonal trough.
