Built around 1270-1280, the Franciscan Church is typical of simple medieval mendicant architecture and in contrast to the style of the Hof Church (see separate entry); it was completely restored in 1988/89. The features of the exterior are the frescos over the door and the varied style of its towers. The interior is impressive and full of interest; it is justly famous for its ornate carved pulpit from 1628 and its flag frescos marking Lucerne’s Middle Ages conquests. Other features include the 1647-51 carved choir stalls and the magnificent Baroque ceiling and sculptures.
