The Fondation de l’Hermitage provides a vista of the cathedral, the Château St-Maire, Lake Geneva and the Savoy Alps. In June 1984 the beautiful 19th century residence was donated to the city by the Bugnion family. Spread over four floors, furnished with Louis 15th, Louis 16th, Empire and Directoire charm, it offers the attractions of a private home, while showing Impressionists, Bonnard, Boudin, and Magritte in a stunning setting. A glass pavilion serves as reception and bookstore. An underground extension houses the Vergottis collection of 17th and 18th century Chinese porcelain. A former pigeon house and orangery has been transformed into a café-restaurant.
