The Henker Museum in Sissach, about 6.5 km south of Liestal, is the only museum dealing with execution and torture in Switzerland. The Guillotine is usually associated with France, where it was last used in 1977, but it was also used in a number of other countries including Switzerland from 1850-1940. In the museum you can see the original model made by Dr Guillotin and you can learn all about its discovery and use. Over the three floors of the old prison, there is a comprehensive display of instruments of torture and execution implements and much more - a macabre experience.
