Estavayer-le-Lac is a picturesque little town on the lakeside, little changed in the last 400 years of its history. There are numerous examples of medieval architecture in the old town centre. Worth visiting are the Gothic church of St Laurent and the Place de Moudon, the medieval marketplace which once overlooked the lake shore. To the east is the Château de Chenaux (see separate entry) which is now the seat of the local government, but you can wander through the courtyards. South of the church, along Grand-Rue, lies the impressive Porte des Religieuses. Rue du Musée branches off to the medieval Maison de la Dîme, housing the frog museum (see separate entry).
