The elevated position of Dietschiberg, located about 5 km northeast of Lucerne and at a height of 632 metres (2,014 feet), affords a spectacular view of the city and of Lake Lucerne to the south. The area has mature forests and you can also see the surrounding Alps and both Pilatus and Rigi. The golf course (see separate entry) was the first in the region. The funicular which ran from Haldenstrasse to Dietschiberg ceased operation in 1978; the two stations remain.
