One of the most spectacular buildings in Switzerland, the magnificent Lucerne Culture and Convention Centre is the work of Parisian architect Jean Nouvel (b.1945), the 2008 winner of architecture’s highest award, the Pritzker Prize. The concert hall, which seats 1,800, is one of the finest in the world with outstanding acoustics. The complex also includes the multi-functional Lucerne Hall and the Convention Centre incorporating the Museum of Art (see separate entry). Located on the shores of Lake Lucerne, the project was built during the period 1995-2000, although the concert hall opened in 1998. The huge roof is one of the outstanding features.
