Historically, Cudrefin, ideally located on Lake Neuchâtel, was more important than it is today. It was a lakeside settlement during the Stone and Bronze Ages, with evidence of habitation going back to approximately 3,000 BC. Up to the 5th Century Cudrefin was ruled by the Celts, the Gallo-Romans and also by Burgundy. In 1246 it was sold to Count Pierre of Savoy. Several historic buildings have been well preserved and testify to the past, such as the 15th Century church of Saint-Théodule, the Chapel of Cudrefin from the same century, the Fountain of the Justice created in 1605, the Grange de la Dîme and the Grenier.
