Coldrerio’s history stretches far into the past. Prehistoric relics show the existence of a Neolithic settlement. There are a number of interesting buildings in this pretty alpine village. Most notable are: the 16th Century Parish Church of St. George and the Church of St. Gregory or St. Apollonia, which is a 17th Century constrction on Roman foundations mentioned as far back as 1275, the 16th Century Chapel of the Madonna of Carmelo and in the Beccaria Family villa there is the 17th Century Church of the Nativity. The Villa Mezzana, dating from the 17th Century, is now the home of the Canton Agricultural School.
