One of the reference monuments in Cudrefin, often used when visitors seek a geographical mark, is the Clock Tower, or Clock Tower and Prison, as it is referred to in historical documents. This tower was first constructed between 1553 and 1554. For reasons unknown, it was entirely demolished and then rebuilt between 1636 and 1637. The records do not say when or why it was used as a prison, merely that it was one of the tower’s functions. Since its reconstruction in the 17th Century it has been regularly renovated.
