The Clock House was erected in 1645 and donated to the Ursuline Convent. In 1685 the sisters sold the building to the Martigny-Bourg Bourgoisie (the Burgesses of the town) who used it as the Maison de Commune until a new one was built. The property has had a somewhat chequered history since then, having been used as a prison and then later as a school, it is now, once again, the Clock House. Throughout its many changes of use and remodelling, it has retained its graceful arches.
