Although the first documented mention is made of the Church of Saint Sisino in 1213, it is believed that a chapel existed on the site long before that date. This formed part of the old castle of the Torriani family, an imposing fortress which dominated Mendrisio, Balerna, Corgelia and Gorla. There are two exhibition areas, housed in the original parish room of Saint Sisino, which display the furnishings, relics, documents and religious ornaments which the Priors of the Tower guarded through the centuries. At Christmas an 18th Century Bavarian crib (originally from Munich) is set up in the Church.
