The Château de Vennes has a long and chequered history. In 1775, Jean-Abraham Meyn bought some land in Vennes-Dessous-les-Roches, near the site of the old tiling works installed in 1490 by the town of Lausanne. In 1780 he had the Château de Vennes designed and built by an unknown architect. Meyn later sold the chateau, the dependent building and grounds to Gédéon Bauty in 1791. From 1855 the building has passed though many hands and institutions. It is now, sadly, surrounded by a motorway, but its former elegance is still evident.
