Castel San Pietro takes its name from the old castle and the Church of St. Peter. On Christmas Eve, 1390, the church was the site of a bloody massacre between the Guelfi and Ghibellini families. Castel San Pietro is the birthplace of many artists, such as the Carabelli, Pozzi and Maggi. Interesting buildings include the Church St. Eusebio (17th Century), the Church of St. Peter (14th Century built on 12th Century foundations), the Church of St. Antonino in Obino (15th Century) and the Chapel of St. Rocco (16th Century). Other places to visit include the Gorge of the River Breggia and the foundations of the old castle.
