The town of Buochs, with a population of around 5,300, is a beautifully situated resort on a bay in Lake Lucerne. It is conveniently located 4.5 km northeast of Stans and about 18 km southeast of Lucerne; it was first documented in 1124 as Boches. Attractions include the Quai, which is regarded as one of the most attractive promenades in the Vierwaldstättersee, St Martin’s Church and the Loreto Chapel. Another feature is the monument to the locally born Johann Melchior Wyrsch (1732-1798), considered one of the most important Swiss portrait painters of the 18th century.
