The town of Arth lies at the southern end of Lake Zug, about 9 km southeast of Küssnacht. First documented in 1036 as Arta, the municipality incorporates the villages of Oberarth and Goldau and the hamlets of Klösterli and Kulm an der Rigi and has a population of some 10,500. It has a good lake bathing area (see separate entry) and is a convenient starting point for a leisurely cruise onboard a scheduled Lake Zug passenger boat. The rack railroad up the Rigi (1,797 metres) starts from the Arth-Goldau station and there is a 17th century baroque church.
