You can find fifteen thousand years of Vaud history at the Cantonal Museum of Archaeology and History, established in 1852. The people of Vaud were nomadic hunter-gatherers, until they settled next to Lake Geneva and the Neuchâtel and Morat lakes, in around 5500 BC. Countless fragile items from the Neolithic era have been uncovered. Visitors can view a full-size “lake” dig and a Neolithic cemetery. The museum also boasts a time machine to take visitors into the future world of 3081 before going back to 1803, the year of Vaud’s independence, and then further back through history to the Bourgogne kings (888 to 1032).
