Directly opposite the Lion Monument, the Alpineum Museum shows three-dimensional pictures of Switzerland’s beautiful mountain regions. An artistic masterpiece, created around 1900 by two painters Ernst Hodel senior and junior, the pictures give an illusion of reality. The subject matter includes Pilatus, Rigi, Jungfrau, Monte Rosa, Gornergrat, Breithorn, Matterhorn and the ascent to Mont Blanc, in a nostalgic view of entertainment before the advent of the cinema and television. There is also a rare collection of stereoscopic equipment and three-dimensional photography dating from the turn of the century.
