The Swiss Alpine resort of Kandersteg is about 34 km south of Thun and one hour by train from Berne. It offers downhill skiing and snow boarding in the Oeschinen and Sunnbüel areas; cross country skiing with over 50 km of prepared tracks around Kandersteg, high alpine tracks at Sunnbüel and an illuminated evening trail. The area is also well known for its ice climbing opportunities in the Oeschi Forest, the Allmenalp Waterfall and the easier Sunnbüel area, amongst others. Then there is the ‘Klettersteig Allmenalp’ fixed rope climbing route (closed during winter), ice skating, curling and much more.
