The Alpach Gorge is located above Meiringen, some 14 km east of Brienz, and was opened to the public again in May 2008. First made accessible in 1891, the gorge is about 10-15 minutes from Meiringen and the hike up to the Hasliberg takes in the order of half an hour. It is an exciting climb along steep cliffs and through the gorge and is not for those afraid of heights. Some parts are with ladders and others without handrails, and those with little or no climbing experience would be well advised to take an experienced guide.
