The 40 minute hike through the Aare Gorge, on walkways and through tunnels, is one of nature’s wonders and should not be missed. The gorge, about 1.4 km long and up to 200 metres deep, has been accessible for over 100 years; an easy walk it is mostly 1-2 metres wide. The western entrance, near Meiringen, has a restaurant; the Innertkirchen eastern entrance is close to the junction of the Grimselstrasse and Sustenstrasse; both have ample parking. The return journey can be undertaken by train or by the hiking trail over the ‘Lammi’ pass taking about one hour. The website is most informative.
