The ancient winegrowing village of Zizers is located about 10 km north of Chur, close to Igis (see separate entry) and on an important road through the Rhine Valley. It is at an altitude of 561 metres and has a population of some 3,250; it was first mentioned in documents in 834 as Zizuris. Its main features are two churches and two 17th century manors, Unteres Schloss and Oberes Schloss (also known as Johannesstift). They both have attractive gardens and are listed Swiss heritage sites of national significance.
