If you are visiting the Saignelégier- Leisure Centre (see separate entry), you could, by appointment, combine this with a visit to the Brodbeck Engine Turners workshop. You can see the art form, produced by the use of the geometric or rose engine lathe, used these days to decorate only the most expensive and prestigious time pieces. The art dates from the 18th century and was commonly employed until the early 20th century. The rose machine is named after the flower patterns (amongst other extremely complicated designs) it can produce and is far superior to the much cheaper ‘jewel finishes’ now used.
