The Violin Making School is located in the old part of Brienz and was founded in 1944; it is the only school of its type in Switzerland. Small exhibitions are regularly staged and concerts are given both in the school and at other venues; there is also a library. For centuries, wood from the surrounding mountain valleys has been used to make musical instruments and guided tours can be arranged for visitors to see violins being made by students on a four year course and learn about materials, manufacturing, designs and methods.
