The Bellinzona Municipal Art Gallery, which opened in 1985, is housed in the splendid Villa dei Cedri. The permanent collection is of mainly 19th and 20th century paintings but also contains a small selection of contemporary art. A special section, called ‘Quaderni di Villa dei Cedri’ is devoted to local artists. The museum collaborates with other galleries to present special exhibitions and has a library and video-library. The artists represented in the permanent collection include Giuseppe Amisani (1881-1941), Giuseppe Barbaglia (1841-1910), Filippo Franzoni (1857-1911), Giuseppe Casciaro (1863-1945), Giuseppe Pellizza (1868-1907), Arturo Tosi (1871-1956), Vincenzo Vela (1820-1891) and many more.
